Tonight in Bath: Ai Weiwei's 'Yours Truly' with live Q&A

The revered Chinese artist's latest documentary will be screened at the Chapel Arts Centre on Tuesday 12 November as part of FilmBath 2019.

One of the best-known artists ever to have come out of China, and certainly one of the most controversial; Ai Weiwei is a sculptor, photographer, architect and curator of world-renowned pieces and exhibitions.

Usually centred around politics and culture, Weiwei's work has seen him arrested on numerous occasions by the Chinese authorities and imprisoned in his home country more than once.

Ai Weiwei's latest film, Yours Truly, is a powerful documentary project that sees him transform Alcatraz into a socially engaging work of art. Having started work on the project while he was still under house arrest, he weaves personal experiences of political imprisonment into an exploration of freedom in an unjust world.

Produced alongside San Francisco curator Cheryl Haines as she makes her directorial debut, Your Truly sees one of the world's most-visited landmarks transformed into an expansive and thought-provoking art exhibition.

Following the screening at 20:45 at the Chapel Arts Centre on Tuesday 12 November, Haines will be hosting a special live Q&A session. With tickets available here at just £9 per person and £7 concessions, this is, without doubt, a highlight of the 2019 FilmBath programme.
