Posted on: 29 Apr 2018

The Forever Friends Appeal are holding their annual walking event in support of Royal United Hospitals on Saturday the 12th May 2018. The walk will take place along the beautiful Kennet & Avon Canal and will give people the chance to support the charity as well as celebrate the lives and memories of loved ones.

The event will be opened by Forever Friends Appeal ambassador Michael Eavis CBE (founder of Glastonbury festival) in Bishops Cannings near Devizes, with participants crossing the finish line when they reach Holburne Museum in Bath. There are two routes available - a 26.2 mile option which will take all day, or a shorter 10 mile afternoon walk which starts in Bradford on Avon.

Registration costs £20 and this includes a t-shirt, medal, refreshments and lots of support! Walkers are encouraged to get sponsorship for their involvement through JustGiving, and can let the charity know on their registration form if there is a particular department of the hospital that they would like their contribution to go to. This is the perfect way to enjoy the sunshine and raise money for a wonderful cause at the same time. Funds raised will be put towards the charity’s Cancer Care Campaign and RNHRD & Therapies Centre if participants do not declare a preference.

The walk was created by and for Vanessa Kyte, who very sadly passed away from cancer in 2007. Following her diagnosis with breast cancer, Vanessa raised more than £100,000 for local and national charities with the aim to provide support to people in the same position as herself. The Walk of Life has been held every year since, with increasing numbers of participants and levels of support continuing her legacy.
