Bath Christmas Market 2016 - 24th November to 11th December

Posted on: 11 Nov 2016

One of the largest jewels in the city's calendar crown is back - bigger, better and of course even more tinsel-tastic than ever before when the Bath Christmas Market returns from Thursday 24th November to Sunday 11th December 2016.

This epic 18-day full-on festival smorgasbord is one of the most highly anticipated and revered events of the year and proudly takes a regular top spot being voted as one of the most popular events in the UK.

As before in its previous incarnations, there will be an impressive variety of decorated wooden chalets - more than 170, all resolutely taking centre stage in the very epicentre of Bath's World Heritage Site.

In addition to the usual range of smiley, familiar faces proffering a multitude of their magnificent wares, there will be plenty of new additions in the form of thrilling stallholders representing business from all across the South West.

All of them will continue to expound the now well-established market tradition of celebrating the very best of British food, drink, trinkets, nik-naks and other delightful items, offering up plenty of top-quality, often highly distinctive, unique and occasionally surprising, artisan products. (And just to thrown an extra something in for the fact hounds amongst you, last year over 70% of the stallholders were from business in Bath and the surrounding area, while 60% of products were handmade in the UK.)

So what can you expect from the Bath Christmas Market this year then? Well - and as familiar, homely and comforting as a warm, fluffy pair of slippers - you can expect very much more of the sensational same, with a raft of Christmas decorations, hand-made toys, personalised gifts, designer jewellery and local artwork vying for your attention.

You can also count of a mouthwatering jamboree of first-class food and drink, which usually includes (and, understand, I'm talking as a seasoned, experienced veteran in such matters) stalls selling thick, juicy burgers and wooden huts dispensing cups full of hearty, winter chill-diffusing mulled wine and cider.

Lively, buzzing and brimming with old school quaint Bathonian charm, the event attracts thousands of visitors from all over the UK, perfectly set in the historic streets circumnavigating the monumentally impressive and majestically imposing Bath Alley.

Unquestionably biased because of the Bath lovers we are (though let's face it now, we're absolutely correct on this next fact) the Bath Christmas Market is a yearly highlight, almost something of a wistful, enchanting trip back in time and one of the year's must-see destinations for your fill of all things very merry and fantastically festive.
