Ranging from mild to knock-your-socks-off there's a chilli to suit every taste

The Chilli Hut is exactly what it says on the tin - it's a hut housing a delicious range of chilli condiments, and it has a home in Green Park Station, and most days at the top of Union Street too. They work with the best local chilli farms to produce their own range of sauces, jams and snacks, and are Bath's only specialist chilli shop! Ranging from mild to knock-your-socks-off, they have bottles of chilli to suit every taste, so we sampled some for ourselves!

The Chilli Hut - Bath

--Fruity Chilli Sauce--

Simply beyond delicious. To tar this with the ‘sweet chilli sauce’ brush is a crime. It is sweet and has hints of chilli but to compare it to a regular store-bought sauce is criminal. It is packed full of flavour with only the very mildest of heat. An absolute delight and needs to be in your cupboard post-haste.

--Chipotle Chilli Sauce--

Tastes more of tomato than you would expect but that’s no bad thing. Still has the smoke and taste you would expect from Chipotle. There’s also a touch of vinegar to it. I can’t imagine a food-stuff that wouldn’t be improved by a dunk in this.

--Mango Chilli Sauce--

Quite unbearably delicious. It tastes like mango chutney if it were to be produced by a chilli sauce company. Funny that. None of the cloying sugary sweetness of cheap mango chutney from a supermarket; it is a complex sauce that offers an immediate sweetness, a mild hit of heat, and an aftertaste of delicious mango. Top stuff.

--Caribbean Chilli Sauce--

This one I am not such a fan of. It has little taste before the heat hits you. It’s not an uncomfortable heat by any means but, considering just how good the other sauces are, it’s a bit of a disappointment. It would be perfect to chuck on some Saturday morning eggs on toast but look to their other sauces for more substantial flavour.

--Dark Habanero--

Beautiful to begin with and even better ten seconds afterwards. It has a taste that combines both smokey peppers with dark chocolate. Do be aware that after that wonderful 10 seconds you will be kicked in the knackers by the heat. It should be used sparingly but is absolutely superb.

--Fireside chutney--

I am genuinely annoyed that it has taken me until a month before my 31st birthday to discover this. It claims to be 4 out of 5 chillis on the jar but I would imagine anyone could enjoy this with a wedge of cheddar on a nice cracker. Not particularly spicy but packed with flavour and will now be a fixture in my household. Much to my wife’s annoyance, I have an entire shelf of a fridge dedicated to chutneys and mustards…this would happily sit at the front. Outstanding.
