Gino's signature innuendos paired with a live cooking show makes for interesting and hilarious viewing!

The cheeky Italian chappy brought his famous Italian Escape Tour to Bath for the second time in as many years. Gino’s tour was a huge success in 2016, with his crude innuendos constantly flooring the audience, whilst he cooked up several Italian recipes live on stage; the mix of comedy and cooking made his show unique and became his signature style. We recently went to see his show at The Forum for an unforgettable evening…

The Forum was the perfect place for Gino’s show to come alive. It was big enough that there was a buzzing atmosphere, as almost every seat had someone in it, but small enough that you felt involved in the show, especially as audience members were invited to ask Gino questions.

Gino D'Acampo at The Forum - Bath

As soon as Gino stepped foot on the stage, his signature lady-killer persona had us in stitches. He is well aware of how much women love his devilish good looks, and he plays on this to make us all laugh. One of the first things he said was to a man in the front row, and he asked, “Can I borrow your wife for 15 minutes?” and as Gino asked several women to come hither, the men looked on in awe as their wives hurriedly ran to the stage to give Gino a hug or a kiss. I bet they wished they had that effect on the opposite sex!

If you didn’t know Gino’s style of comedy (he’s not just known for his cooking skills anymore), you would think he’s the rudest person on the planet. His sarcastic rudeness is just a façade and it’s why fans love him, because they know it’s just an act and it’s what makes him funny. When audience members asked him strange questions that made no sense (unfortunately this happened more than once), he would put his confusion into a reply like “Are you here with your carer?” or “Take the microphone away from that crazy person.” He doesn’t take anything seriously, and makes a joke out of everything, usually in the crudest way possible. However there were a few interesting points in the show where he would put his serious face on and give us cooking tips, such as why you should always cook pasta al dente, or why you should flavour meat after it is cooked, not before. So not only did we chuckle until our cheeks were sore, but we learnt some practical skills!

The audience were playful with Gino, and one lady from the audience who helped him cook on stage even insisted that the food be given out to the rest of us, much to Gino’s shock at her decision to run the show – but he let her anyway. One young girl asked for a selfie with him in the middle of the show, to which he obliged. He even got an elderly couple to sit on the sofa on the stage, get comfy with a blanket wrapped around them and watch the show with the best view in the house. Of course the first thing Gino did when the elderly couple sat down, was to straddle the man’s wife and hug her, much to her delight. His approachability makes him loveable – he’s not afraid to get physically close with the audience, and break the barrier between the stage and the fans.

His inability to pronounce words in the proper English way (his Italian accent makes the ladies swoon), his constant swearing and his obsession with sexual innuendos, are what make Gino the hilarious cheeky chap that so many people love, and it’s not just women. There were plenty of men balled over with laughter, and I think we can safely assume they regularly watch Gino on one of the craziest and rudest shows on TV - Celebrity Juice!

Gino's tour has come to an end for 2017, but you can keep an eye out on what's on at The Forum here.
