Cosy Club – Bath Food Review

Right in the middle of Southgate’s shopping centre, Cosy Club is perfectly located for those who want to stop off for a bite to eat or drink while Christmas shopping. We popped in yesterday to try some of their best dishes. Read on for the review:
Cosy Club describe their menu as having “…a British heart, majoring on luxury comfort food with some tongue in cheek classics and favourites from across the world…” If you didn’t know this before you ordered you might be a bit puzzled as to why there’s tapas, burgers and curry on the same menu. But it works because, as we found out, it’s comfort food that satisfies the taste buds.
Starters are replaced by tapas, so you can either have individuals for £4.25 each or three for £11.95 which worked out perfectly as a sharing starter between myself and my dining partner. It would have been enough for three people though which is good to know for next time. My favourite of the three we had was the Pork Belly Squares with barbecue glaze. The squares of meat were tender and were practically melt in the mouth. The Baby Chorizo Sausages, lightly sautéed in olive oil, were flavoursome, but not too spicy which was great. The Garlic Mushroom tapas was nice, but the butter didn’t taste of garlic so they could have had more flavour. Overall I was pleased with the tapas and how filling they were, plus it’s all served with slices of ciabatta bread aswell!
Being winter, I was craving comfort food and carbs so I picked Macaroni Cheese for my main course, with Cornish-smoked maple bacon. Of course what you want from a mac and cheese dish is for it to be really cheesy and moreish. Cosy Club got it spot on. It was drenched in cheddar cheese, with plenty of bacon bits throughout. It was a huge portion, so for £10.95 it was amazing value and I could barely eat half of it because it was so filling, as expected. My dining partner had The Empire Curry (£13.95) served with onion bhaji, naan bread and mango chutney. It was served beautifully on an ornate silver plated dish.
Last but not least, for dessert we had Salted Caramel Cheesecake (£5.95) which is served with sweet and salty popcorn on top. Sounds a bit strange, I know, but it was such a sweet treat. The cheesecake was plain vanilla and although there could have been more salted caramel sauce, it was another big portion and the combination of textures and tastes with the popcorn was delightful. I know I would definitely order it again and that’s a sign of a dish well enjoyed. Along with our fantastic service from our very friendly waiter, I can honestly say I had a fabulous time and would highly recommend Cosy Club.
